The Rams were eliminated from the playoffs by their NFC West rivals, the Seattle Seahawks, which certainly stung Les Snead and the hierarchy at SoFi Stadium.
However, the San Francisco 49ers will have also had a close eye on Donald’s return, with the two sides opening up their seasons against each other in Australia.
Ahead of the game in Melbourne, 49ers general manager John Lynch has shared his thoughts on the return of the future Hall of Famer.

The Rams and Niners face off in Melbourne next week, with Donald set to make his return from retirement against his old NFC West foes.
It is difficult to play down just how impressive the Rams’ roster has become this offseason, with some huge additions.
Speaking to the media on Monday, Lynch shared his thoughts as the Niners GM over facing Donald twice in the upcoming season.
“I mean, the guy’s different, right? He’s an exceptional player, one of the greats, and I do subscribe to that. I think we’re pretty good, too,” said Lynch.
“They got better, certainly, with him deciding to come out of retirement. Now, there’s been some time away, but I know that guy trains like a bad man. I ran into him in a hotel somewhere a while back, and we had some fun chatter back and forth. I never thought he’d do it, but he’s doing it, and so we better get ready for it.”
Lynch responded after being asked whether he’d be losing any sleep over Donald’s return to the game.
Donald has proven a real issue for the Niners over his career, with double-digit sacks under his belt prior to his retirement.
How ready he will be for the Week One opener in Australia remains to be seen, though.
