Cardoso hails Sundowns after ‘fantastic’ win over Arrows

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso was full of praise for his charges after their ‘fantastic’ win over Golden Arrows.

This after the Brazilians survived a late scare to beat Abafana Bes’thende 3-2 in the second leg of the MTN8 semifinal at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

They will now meet Orlando Pirates in the final of the cup competition.

“It’s not easy here to win 4-2, today we made a fantastic, beautiful result,” Cardoso told SuperSport TV.

“Four goals scored so fantastic, fantastic anyway we know what we had to do. The first goal will be very emotionally positive, we knew that we had to circulate the ball a lot until we find the way there and from there the drop in energy on Arrows will happen,” continued Cardoso.

“Also, we knew the second goal would kill the game but make it very difficult as the away goals will not be on our other side and we worked on that of course.

“I think the team deserved congratulations today, positive mindset, right attitude established and very good behaviour on the pitch. But then we have to come here again in one week and in the middle, let’s prepare for Milford,” he added.

‘We need to correct our mistakes’

Despite the win, Cardoso was again not happy with his team’s defending after they conceded two goals.

“Again, we suffered goals from a mistake in a ball that we used, something the boys really need to take into consideration because we’re being penalised individually, characterised by here and then individual mistakes.

“Anyway, for me it’s always looking at the right side of the question and seeing how the boys worked today. It’s very difficult for me to complain about a player that loses the ball but runs for 90 minutes and put so much effort.

“Let’s continue to work, put in effort, correct the mistakes, become stronger, away from these fantastic ambiences from our supporters who feel they understood the message from the previous match and again today I repeat it’s not easy to win here 4-2,” concluded Cardoso.
