Today marked the fifteenth Philadelphia Eagles training camp practice ahead of the 2026 NFL season. Here’s what I observed down at the Jefferson Health Training Complex!
EAGLES PRACTICE NOTES
- Relatively lighter practice today. No pads and only about 70 minutes long.
- EAGLES INJURY REPORT:BGN’s Alexis Chassen already wrote up the injury report but there are some developments I wanted to touch on.
- DeVonta Smith and Makai Lemon were removed from the injury report; they were full go on Monday. The Eagles are certainly glad to have them back.
- Eli Stowers is now dealing with a hamstring injury. Not ideal. The rookie tight end really hasn’t had a good offseason. Without knowing the severity of his ailment, I wonder if he’ll begin the season on injured reserve/designated to return.
- Also not fun to see both Markel Bell (thumb/leg) and Willie Lampkin (stinger) missing practice after showing promise this summer. Hopefully nothing too serious here.
- Cole Wisniewski is now in the concussion protocol after missing most of the offseason due to hamstring injury issues. Tough development.
- Dameon Pierce (hamstring) and Byron Young (shoulder) both notably returned to practice today, albeit in a limited capacity. Early in camp, it looked like Pierce might push for RB3 … but Will Shipley has stepped up recently, as has Carson Steele.
- Gabe Hall got banged up late in practice. He was limping while jogging off the field to the sideline. Something to monitor.
- JALEN HURTS UPDATE: Hurts was up and down today.
- THE GOOD:
- QB1 found Dallas Goedert and Elijah Moore for short-to-medium gains in 7-on-7. And again in 11-on-11s.
- A Hurts pass over the middle to DeVonta in stride went just past the outstretched arm of a defender for first down yardage.
- Hurts connected with Darius Cooper over the middle. They have a nice chemistry. Good things happen when the Eagles throw the ball to DC.
- Hurts hit Hollywood Brown deep down the left sideline. (I should note that Jordan Davis and other defensive linemen were crashing down on the QB. Maybe he would’ve gotten the pass off in a game and taken the hit … or maybe it would’ve been a sack.)
- THE BAD:
- Hurts failed to get a throw off in 7-on-7. That used to be a more common issue for him in the past.
- Also rare: One of Hurts’ passes hit the fly swatter dummy, which is designed to replicate a leaping defensive lineman in 7-on-7, and went incomplete.
- Hurts had another throw batted down at the line of scrimmage by an actual Eagles defender in 11-on-11.
- Hurts overthrew Hollywood Brown deep for what should’ve been a touchdown. Brown was pretty open with Andrew Mukuba trailing.
- Side note: feel like this was the first practice of camp where Brown’s vertical threat ability showed up.
- Hurts put the ball too far out in front of DeVonta on a red zone fade throw. Cooper DeJean had tight coverage on the play.
- Hurts placed a pass behind Johnny Mundt on a short throw over the middle for an incompletion.
- It felt like Hurt’ average time to throw was longer than it’s been most of this summer. Part of that was Vic Fangio’s defense playing smothering coverage but Hurts did have his starting receivers out there today in Smith, Lemon, Dontayvion Wicks.
- THE GOOD:
- MAKAI LEMON UPDATE: Lemon was notably working with the starting offense during his first day back. His first target resulted in an incompletion. From my angle, it looked like it may have been a drop. Others thought the throw from Hurts wasn’t on the money and/or timing may have been an issue. Later on, Lemon was utilized on a screen pass. He was also used in pre-snap motion a decent amount.
- I’m running out of ways to praise Jalyx Hunt. He’s had an awesome summer. It felt like he was living in the backfield today.
- Hunt got to Hurts for a “sack” with Dallas Goedert either blocking him one-on-one or chipping him.
- Hunt also beat Lane Johnson to pressure Hurts.
- Hunt just generally kept getting near Hurts before having to pull up.
- Hunt was in prime position for a TFL on Saquon Barkley.
- Moro Ojomo also had a nice day of disruption. He quickly beat the Eagles’ interior offensive line to likely “sack” Hurts up the middle.
- Dontayvion Wicks has mostly avoided drops this summer but he did have a bounce pass off his hands and well into the air before ultimately falling incomplete. Throw from Hurts may have been a tad higher than it needed to be.
- Elijah Moore made a number of catches today after missing the Eagles’ previous practice. He was also involved in a jet sweep that went for a chunk gain. He’s one of the the tougher players to figure out in terms of whether he’ll make the 53-man roster or not. If he does get cut, I think the Eagles would try to get him back on the practice squad and use his temporary elevations.
- BACKUP QUARTERBACK BATTLE UPDATE: Tanner McKee was first up as QB2 today. Nothing overly flashy but a lot of shorter completions. Felt like the ball rarely hit the ground when he was out there. Andy Dalton did have a good completion to Moore along the sideline. No major movement in this battle today.
- The Eagles’ defense definitely won the day. The offense stalled in the end of practice scrimmage scenario.
- Shout out to BGN community member MOD#92! I had the pleasure of meeting them at today’s practice. Our Canadian friend had a cool story about how he came to visit Philly this week. I’ll let them decide if they want to share more details or not in the comment section below.
ROSTER MOVES: The Eagles released veteran safety J.T. Gray (who dropped a sure interception on Saturday night) and waived/injured Ja’Quinden Jackson, who was taken off the field in an ambulance just two days ago.
