Mark Pope has added a new weapon to his arsenal at Kentucky by securing the commitment of forward Mark Mitchell after he was granted eligibility for a fifth year in college by a court on Friday. The addition to the roster means that Pope has probably added his final piece of the jigsaw to build the Kentucky Wildcats roster.

Previously at the likes of Missouri and Duke, Mark Mitchell brings experience and quality to a stacked lineup at Kentucky, which already includes a returning Malachi Moreno and a high-profile transfer portal addition in Milan Momcilovic, making the Wildcats’ attack a force to be reckoned with.

But some fans have raised questions about this acquisition too, with one particularly saying that Mitchell is a “weak defender that can’t rebound”.

Mark Mitchell Spoke About His Strengths as a Facilitator Earlier This Year

Following Missouri’s NCAA Tournament defeat to Miami this year, Mark Mitchell spoke about how his game has grown as a facilitator.

“I think it’s grown a lot. With more reps, you get better and better at it. Since I’ve got here, they’ve trusted me to have the ball in my hands a lot,” he told media after the game.

“Over time I’ve gotten better at it and been able to show that. So kudos to Coach Gates for allowing that. When you see certain defenses over time, you kind of get better at that. I know I had five turnovers tonight. Wasn’t my best assist-to-turnover-ratio game. But I think over the course of the season my development with seeing double teams, playing in the short roll, playing in the pocket, things like that, it’s something I’m proud of, something I wanted when I came here. So I’m glad it could happen.”

Mitchell now starts a new journey with Kentucky using all his strengths from previous years.
