Thane Crime: Anti-Corruption Bureau Arrests Bhiwandi Police Constable For Accepting ₹30,000 Bribe From Scrap Dealer

Bhiwandi, August 22, 2026: A police constable attached to the Bhoiwada Police Station was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly accepting a Rs 30,000 bribe from a scrap dealer in exchange for allowing his business to operate without police interference.
The arrested policeman has been identified as Rajendra Pawar, 46, a police constable posted at Bhoiwada Police Station. The trap was laid by the Mumbai ACB team at the Karivali police outpost.

Bribe Demand Alleged
According to the ACB, the complainant runs a scrap purchase and sale business in the area. Pawar allegedly demanded Rs 35,000 from him, promising that the business would be allowed to continue without any obstruction or police action.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the scrap dealer approached the Mumbai ACB office on August 19 and lodged a written complaint.
Following the complaint, the ACB conducted a verification of the allegations on the morning of August 20. During the verification, Pawar allegedly agreed to reduce the demanded amount and accept Rs 30,000.
ACB Lays Trap
Based on the verification, the ACB laid a trap under the direction of Police Inspector Manoj Godse. At around 3.40 pm on August 20, the complainant allegedly handed over the bribe amount to Pawar at the Karivali police outpost.
As soon as the transaction took place, the ACB team, which had been waiting nearby, caught Pawar red-handed.

The accused police personnel was subsequently taken into custody and a case has been registered against him under the relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The ACB is conducting further legal proceedings in the case. Officials are also examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged demand and whether any other person was involved.
