Over the past week or so, those tapped into the daily happenings of Detroit Pistons basketball have been trying to read the tea leaves to receive any indication or sign as to what Jalen Duren’s next move might be.

This offseason, the news has been pretty quiet for the 22-year old All-Star center after such a dominant fourth year in the league. During July, most of the Pistons were representing the organization in Las Vegas at the Summer League, but Duren was obviously not part of that group given the nature of his contract discussions. So, it was not a surprise that he was notably absent from the five-game exhibition.
But over the last week, Duren held an offseason development camp in Michigan, though there was some scuttlebutt about whether the event would proceed as scheduled. JD was there working with the kids, then shortly after the big man took to social media in order to promote Jalen Duren Day back in his hometown, which featured a few teammates as part of the promo.
After growing up in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, Duren has made it a point to give back to the area that provided so much for him as a youngster, and the region’s official X account described the event as “an annual celebration that brings the Sharon Hill community for a day of fun, tides and basketball! Thank you to Jalen for all he continues to do to give back to his home,” which included a new road that was bestowed in Duren’s honor.
Earlier today, Council Chair Richard Womack was on-hand to celebrate Sharon Hill and Delco's own - All-NBA center Jalen Duren!

”It’s amazing, man,” Duren said. “It’s amazing. Being where I grew up, this is where I used to walk right over here in this lot to grab Christmas trees, used to sit on the step and watch the fireworks to now come back and have everybody out here showing love, to have the street named after me, to be able to give back to my community— this is just what I do it for.”
From a basketball perspective, Duren has accomplished a lot on the court for the Pistons over the past couple seasons, especially after the All-NBA Third Team performance he turned in a year ago, but there is still room to improve according to the Memphis product.
”Just continue to grow,” Duren said. “Like you said, setting a high standard for myself, trying to achieve the goals that I set for myself. I’ve done a little bit, but it’s still a long way to go, and I’ve got a lot better to do.”
Last season, Duren finished in second place for the Most Improved Player award, so the big man has already backed up his mantra of near-constant work to continue making positive strides. But at the moment, Duren is taking a lot of those strides in a solo capacity since he still hasn’t worked out a deal with the Pistons yet, which is a topic that JD declined to comment on during the event.
Since the Pistons have been in the offseason for three months now, Duren’s contract situation is reaching a boiling point, but more updates are expected soon since Detroit will open up training camp later next month.
