BMW Championship attracting big crowds at Bellerive

TOWN AND COUNTRY, MO. - Ed Glotzbach, the Bellerive Country Club tournament chairman for the BMW Championship, said Thursday’s crowd of more than 28,000 fans was the biggest crowd for a Thursday round of the tournament. He said the St. Louis community is also known for how they treat players.

“They’re very mannerly toward golfers.  We hear that from the pros,” said Glotzbach.  “St. Louis has a lot to be proud of. They always show up, and they’re always a great crowd.”

Fans are encouraged to carpool or use rideshare services for Saturday and Sunday. Grounds tickets are sold out. Hospitality options involving all-inclusive tickets remain.

Kristian Harrison is from the United Kingdom but currently lives in Bahrain. He traveled to St. Louis to see the tournament and was not disappointed.

“I’ve been to a couple of opens in the UK and it’s a lot of sand dunes and quite difficult to get around.  Here it’s all very well organized and I think you get to be a little bit closer,” said Harrison. “Everyone’s so hospitable.”

Carrie Blankemeyer, an avid golf fan attending Friday’s round, recalls hearing what players said following the 2018 PGA Championship at Bellerive.

“The players said they loved coming to see St. Louis,” said Blankemeyer. “They wish they had crowds like us all the time. So, I love that we represent our city well.”

Glotzbach said positive attention only boosts the region’s reputation for hosting major sporting events.

“This broadcast goes to 200 countries,” he said. “A lot of people learn a lot about St. Louis.”
