Two Huskers named finalists for 2026 Assistant Coach of the Year

A couple of Nebraska assistant coaches were named finalists for D1 Softball 2026 Assistant Coach of the Year. Lori Sippel and Diane Miller made the top 25 finalists for Assistant Coach of the Year.

Sippel and Miller both aided the Huskers in their journey to a 52-8 record, tying a program record for wins in a season, and set a school record with a 27-game win streak. The coaches also helped Nebraska finish 23-1 in Big Ten play, marking the most in program history and tying a Big Ten record. The duo also helped Jordy Frahm and Alexis Jensen earn All-America honors. Frahm also won NFCA and USA Softball Player of the Year.
Miller headed Nebraska's offense, which finished the 2026 season ranked in the top 25 in seven different stat categories. Sippel coordinated Nebraska’s pitchers, who finished in the top 10 nationally in six categories. Nebraska’s offense also finished in the top three in batting average (.325), hits (539), runs scored (407), doubles (99), home runs (97), extra-base hits (210), RBIs (383), slugging percentage (.577), total bases (957) and on-base percentage (.405).
Sippel retired this offseason, and Miller was promoted to associate head coach. The D1Softball National Assistant Coach of the Year will be announced on Aug. 31.
