These two teams were Stanley Cup contenders battling it out every year, with some historic playoff battles, and some of the all-time greats were on both of these teams, like Steve Yzerman, Joe Sakic, and Patrick Roy.

#6 Washington Capitals vs Pittsburgh Penguins

The battle between Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby. Two of the best of this generation are going head-to-head, and the playoff series was electric. When Ovechkin snipes Marc-Andre Fleury from the left side, Crosby immediately responds.

Both deserved their Stanley Cups, and when Ovechkin finally got over the hump, defeating the Penguins in 2018, you knew a cup was coming to Washington. This rivalry still gets tons of hype because both players are still playing at a high level.

This is a rivalry that Leafs fans get haunted by because of the Bruins’ dominance. Dating back to 1969, the Bruins have won 8 straight playoff series against the Leafs.

Most recently, in 2024, Boston got the better of them. Both teams have had strong teams: Patrice Bergeron, Zdeno Chara, Brad Marchand, Auston Matthews, Dion Phaneuf, and Phil Kessel. To this day, this series gets lots of hype and is still considered one of the greatest in history.

The Battle of New York remains a legendary rivalry. Both teams share a rich history, with the Rangers holding a slight edge at 142 wins, 130 losses, and 29 ties in 340 matchups. Currently, the spotlight is on the goaltending duel: who reigns supreme in New York, Igor Shesterkin or Ilya Sorokin?

This highly anticipated Canadian rivalry is always exciting. The battle of Alberta remains intense every year, but it also features an unforgettable moment when goalies Cam Talbot of Calgary and Mike Smith of Edmonton engaged in a rare goalie fight, exchanging punches after dropping their gloves.

The intensity was further heightened by Matthew Tkachuk’s clashes with enforcer Zack Kassian during his time with the Flames, making for thrilling viewing. Historically, the Calgary Flames hold a record of 136-112-26 overtime losses against the Oilers.
