Carson Beck's NFL preseason encore will have to wait after it was revealed that the quarterback is dealing with a rib injury. The rookie will be out for the Arizona Cardinals second preseason contest as he continues to recover, according to ESPN's Ian Rapoport.

Beck suffered the injury during the Hall of Fame game, but it isn't considered serious.

Fans figured to get a glimpse at Beck and fellow rookie, Fernando Mendoza, during Aug. 13's preseason contest that was going to serve as a rematch between the signal-callers from the 2026 College Football Playoff national championship game.

Instead, the marquee now only features Mendoza, who will make his pro debut.

Beck starred during the Hall of Fame game – his first on-field action since being selected in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft with the 65th overall pick. Once considered to be a first-round prospect, Beck reminded fans of the talent he possesses and gave the Cardinals a reason to dream.

Unfortunately for everyone involved, those memories of the preseason opener will be the only thing to hang onto for at least another week.

Brissett has already been named the Cardinals' starter for Week 1. Minshew slides in as the backup given his experience, but it's not impossible that Beck could slide up the depth chart as the season progresses.

If the Cards falter, the rookie could be given a chance to play – even if it's just so the team can see what they have in him. If injuries occur, that regular season debut could come sooner rather than later.
