Newark, Newark Catholic hosting third outdoor volleyball event

Newark and Newark Catholic will jointly host the Showdown at Sundown for the third time Aug. 15. Twenty-two teams, including 10 Licking County schools, will match up for a total of 11 scrimmages of two sets apiece.
The event begins with Utica playing Lancaster and Mount Vernon playing New Lexington at 3:30 p.m. each. The host Wildcats and Green Wave conclude the event at 8:30 p.m.
Cost is $5 per person with ages 5 and under free. The home and visiting bleachers both will be open, but fans are encouraged to bring chairs to sit beside the courts while cheering on their favorite team.

- Watkins Memorial vs. Bellefontaine, 5:30 p.m.
- Heath vs. Pickerington Central, 6:30 p.m.
- Johnstown vs. Gallia Academy, 6:30 p.m.
- Northridge vs. River View, 7:30 p.m.
- Licking Valley vs. Circleville, 7:30 p.m.
- Newark vs. Newark Catholic, 8:30 p.m.
