Ahead of fall camp kicking off, he discussed how he feels about the defense's ability to generate a pass rush.
"Time will tell, right," Knowles said on Tuesday ahead of practice No. 1. "Time will tell. Real sorry not having Chaz (Coleman), I hope for the best for him as a young man. Time will tell with the pass rush. Because you are never hitting the quarterback, or trying not to get close to the quarterback when you are in spring or fall camp, a lot of these things, pass rush, you don't see until you get to the game.
"It's kind of how Chaz made his mark last year at Penn State - we just setup opportunities for him in the game just to be creative in the pass rush - so it's a question mark and time will tell how that goes, but we need to have other tools in the tool box to create pass rush, if need be, and we will have that."
Knowles served as Penn State's defensive coordinator in 2025 after being in the same capacity at Ohio State from 2022-24.
