'Does Supreme Court Now Want Everybody To Take Bullets?': Abhijeet Dipke Slams Court's Remarks In Mahua Moitra Case

Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke on Friday criticised the Supreme Court's observations while hearing Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra in a hate speech case.

Reacting to the court's remarks, Dipke wrote on X, "Does the Supreme Court now want everybody to take bullets? When these kinds of statements are made by the judges of the Supreme Court against opposition leaders, what hope does it leave for the common person?"

The reaction came shortly after the Supreme Court declined to entertain Moitra's plea challenging a Calcutta High Court order directing her to appear before the police in connection with the case.

During the hearing, senior advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan, appearing for the Trinamool Congress leader, argued that his client should be allowed to appear virtually, citing security concerns. He said Moitra had previously faced threats and that eggs had been thrown at her during an earlier visit.

A bench comprising Justices Dipankar Datta and Sheel Nagu, however, refused to intervene. Responding to the concerns raised by the petitioner's counsel, the bench orally observed, "You are a Member of Parliament. Having taken the plunge into politics, you fear eggs? When our freedom fighters have taken bullets on their chest?"

Following the court's observations, Moitra's counsel withdrew the plea. The Calcutta High Court had earlier granted the MP protection from coercive action until October 5, subject to her cooperation with the investigation.
