The Houston Texans reunited with pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney in NFL free agency recently. The veteran defender had lingered on the open market without a team for a while. Ahead of the 2026 season, he has elected to return to where it all started for him.
Clowney was drafted by the Texans first overall back in 2014. He spent five seasons with Houston, recording 29 sacks in that time. He also helped lead the franchise to two postseason appearances. On Wednesday, he sat down with NFL Network to explain why now was the time to return to the Texans.
“I didn’t like how it went the first time. And I felt like we had a good team to win the first time. I kept watching them after I left, watching (head coach DeMeco Ryans) put this team together. I was like, I’ve been living here. My kids go to school here. If I had to pick to come here or somewhere else, I may as well stay home and help the team I got drafted to,” the veteran pass rusher said in that interview.

Clowney has bounced around the NFL since initially leaving the Texans in 2018. He has played for six franchises since his move to the Seattle Seahawks that year. He only spent multiple seasons with one of those teams, playing two years for the Cleveland Browns in 2021 and 2022.
In 2025, the veteran pass rusher suited up for the Dallas Cowboys. In 13 games, he started six of them, recording 41 combined tackles with 12 tackles for a loss and 8.5 sacks.
