The Denver Broncos had one of the best defenses last season, and that will probably not change this year. While the departure of John Franklin-Myers, who signed with the Tennessee Titans in free agency, was a big blow, the Broncos have enough enforcers to sustain their top-level coverage.
Last season, the Broncos allowed only 91.1 rushing yards and 187.2 passing yards per game, which ranked No. 2 and No. 6, respectively. They tallied 68 sacks, which were five shy of beating the league record set by the Chicago Bears in 1984.
In a report from NFL.com’s Jeremy Bergman, Broncos defensive tackle DJ Jones was confident that they can surpass the Bear’s impressive feat.

“We can break it. We can break the record. What is that, 72? We can break it,” said Jones in training camp.
Aside from the Bears, who also did it in 1987, the Minnesota Vikings in 1989 and The Philadephia Eagles in 2022 are the only teams to have reached 70 sacks in a season.
The 31-year-old Jones, who tied his career-high of three sacks last season, stressed that the Broncos have the arsenal to make history, echoing the pronouncement of his teammate, defensive end Zach Allen, in July. He also had an intresting analogy for it.
“We got what it takes. We’ve tasted it. Now, it’s time to cook the meal, eat it, and take a break,” added Jones.
“You know how you eat a good meal, and you lay down after to take a good nap, and you wake up and go eat again? We’re about to eat again. It’s time. We got the numbers, we got the men, we got the willpower, we’ve got free will to go do it. So, it’s up to us, and we’ll go do that.”
Talk about having the jones for the league record.
