D.J. Jones expects Malcolm Roach to replace John Franklin-Myers

The Denver Broncos defense lost a major piece during the offseason when defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers left in free agency to join the Tennessee Titans this spring. As training camp continues, the competition for the open spot is heating up between several suitors, including Eyioma Uwazurike, Sai'vion Jones, Tyler Onydim and Jordan Jackson.

But veteran D.J. Jones believes that another player may more than fill the void left by JFM: Malcolm Roach.

"As far as rotation goes Roach — I believe he's going to take that JFM job and he's run with it," Jones said to media members after Wednesday's training camp practice. "He's doing a great job as we speak."

Roach is coming off a very productive 2025 campaign, his second year with Denver. Roach played in 12 regular season games and both playoff tilts, making a career-high 50 total tackles and six sacks throughout the season. Now in his third season with the Broncos, Roach is one of the more veteran players on the defensive line, making him one of the top candidates for the open slot.

While it remains to be seen if Jones' prediction comes true, this particular position battle will continue to be one of the most closely monitored throughout the rest of training camp, and throughout the preseason. Roach has to be careful, though — if he hits quarterback Bo Nix one more time in practice, he could find himself in a real bind.
