Big things are expected of the Huskies, who finished the 2025 season at 11-4-3 (7-1-2 Big East) to give them three consecutive double-digit win seasons.

Big East coaches selected the Huskies to finish second in the conference in the annual coaches poll, released Monday. Georgetown totaled 98 points, with eight-first place votes. UConn earned 89 points (two first-place), with Xavier (78, one first place), Creighton (73) and Villanova (66) rounding out the top five.

On the individual level, Huskies senior midfielder Anaya Johnson and redshirt sophomore forward Se-Hanna Mars were voted to the preseason All-Big East Team.

Johnson was a first-team All-Big East selection after the 2025 season with one goal and one assist in 17 matches.

Other UConn news

A familiar face is returning to UConn women’s basketball as the latest member of head coach Geno Auriemma’s coaching staff.

The hiring of Nykesha Sales, an inaugural member of the Huskies of Honor, who went on to a WNBA career before entering the coaching profession, was announced Monday.

She replaces Jamelle Elliott, who resigned in June to pursue non-coaching opportunities.

A Connecticut native, Sales was a member the UConn team that won the first of the Huskies’ dozen NCAA championships. In four seasons, her teams won eight Big East titles (regular season and conference tourney) and appeared in two NCAA Final Fours.

"Returning to UConn is a full-circle moment for me," Sales, 50, said. "Connecticut is home and where it all started. UConn obviously had a huge impact on my life and was such a foundational part of my success as a person, player and a coach. Being a part of this legacy again is an incredible honor. I'm extremely grateful and excited."
