A $140 million contract extension proves that the organization views him as a No. 1 wide receiver. It also sends another huge message, according to Nick Wright.

The polarizing Fox Sports 1 personality believes Baltimore’s loyalty to Flowers tells fans that superstar quarterback Lamar Jackson has sufficient help on offense.

“It is gobsmacking that the Ravens gave him that deal,” Wright said on Tuesday’s edition of “First Things First.” “And it is a sign that the Ravens think: we do have a star receiver… It is a further commitment to the idea: Lamar, you’ve got enough, man. You’ve got Derrick Henry, We think you have a number one receiver.”

Jackson has never had an elite WR, but Flowers, star tight end Mark Andrews and Rashod Bateman have all made an impact over the years. Moreover, Henry is a future Hall of Fame running back who averaged 5.2 yards per carry in his age-31 campaign. Although self-inflicted wounds and questionable play-calling decisions have doomed the Ravens of late, No. 8 stills bears accountability for some of the team’s most stinging defeats.

Lamar Jackson will try to lead the franchise and Flock to the pinnacle this season. New head coach Jesse Minter and new offensive coordinator Declan Doyle will certainly play vital roles in that process, and so will Zay Flowers. The 2023 first-round draft pick is under plenty of pressure in his own right after securing $108 million guaranteed for himself. He recorded a career-high 86 receptions for 1,211 yards and five touchdowns in 2025-26.

Will Flowers prove the Ravens right and show the NFL-watching world that he can be the top pass-catcher on a Super Bowl-winning squad? Fair or not, the answer to that question will likely affect Jackson’s legacy.
