To be clear: Reid Detmers is still with the Los Angeles Angels.
A post by Bleacher Nation’s Michael Cerami on X claimed that Detmers was shipped to the Chicago Cubs at the trade deadline. Several insiders refuted his report, but Cerami still stood by his information and refused to rescind it, stressing his belief in his reporting.
“I haven’t been wrong before, and I trust my source. If I need to retract it and apologize, I will. But we are not there yet,” said Cerami.

On Monday, he sang a different tune.
“Given what has transpired, I have to retract my earlier report about the Cubs acquiring Reid Detmers,” wrote Cerami.
“I don’t report breaking news often, and I had not been wrong even once before this. But I was wrong today, it seems. I am sorry. I will do better next time.”
He added that he already deleted the post.
“Again, I’m sorry. It was not intentionally deceiving. I have good sources and trust them. I just got it wrong this time,” said Cerami, who is the editor-in-chief of Bleacher Nation.
Detmers was linked to the Cubs before the trade deadline. Many viewed the southpaw pitcher as the perfect addition to Chicago’s injury-stricken roster.
The 26-year-old Detmers has tallied 145 strikeouts this season, which is the ninth-most in the MLB. He has become a lethal threat on the mound with his risk-taking and unrelenting approach, although his breaking balls need more work.
Now that the trade deadline has passed and Detmers remains with the Angels, the Cubs will continue leaning on manager Craig Counsell’s pitching rotation of Shota Imanaga, Matthew Boyd, Javier Assad, Colin Rea, Aaron Civale, and David Peterson.
