The San Diego Padres are preparing for the upcoming MLB trade deadline. We have less than 24 hours left before MLB’s trade season officially concludes. For Padres manager Craig Stammen, it’s sort of a new experience for him.
Stammen is a former major league pitcher, so the MLB trade deadline isn’t entirely foreign to him. But this will be his first time experiencing it as a manager. Thankfully, he has a general manager who has been around the block a few times. And the expectation is that AJ Preller will be quite busy over the next several hours.
“I expect him not to sleep and to be on the phone a lot,” Stammen said, via USA Today reporter Bob Nightengale.

There has been some trade action already in the last 24 hours. On Saturday night, the Detroit Tigers traded Tarik Skubal to the Los Angeles Dodgers. On Sunday, the Chicago Cubs landed Kevin Gausman in a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Padres has not made many moves to this point. Still, there is time to make something happen. What San Diego elects to do, though, remains to be seen. The Padres are 58-54, one game back in the NL Wild Card race.
Speculation has run rampant about the future of elite closer Mason Miller, for instance. And a couple of other players on this team stand out as trade candidates. With less than 24 hours to go, it will certainly be intriguing to see what Preller and the Padres can pull off before Monday’s 6 p.m. deadline.
