After an off day, the Bears returned to the practice field on Monday and put on the pads for the first time. Unfortunately, the story of the day was the injury to safety Coby Bryant, who is expected to miss the next eight to ten weeks with a knee injury. It was a physical practice that still had some bright spots despite the bad news.
Following every Bears training camp practice, we at Bears Wire will highlight the top players who stood out on the field. Here are the players who stood out on Day 5 of practice:
1. OT Jedrick Wills
The left tackle competition took a step in intensity Monday with the pads coming on, and while Braxton Jones impressed with the first-string offense, Jedrick Wills appeared to have a strong day as well while working with the second team. According to CHSN's Clay Harbor, Wills showed impressive technique with good hands while working during one-on-one drills. Harbor noted on rep in particular when Wills pushed defensive end Jamree Kromah. Head coach Ben Johnson praised Wills for having a good start to camp prior to the practice as well, another indication this competition is far from over.
2. WR Jahdae Walker
The receivers seemed to be showing out following a rough practice on Saturday, particularly Jahdae Walker, who stood out in both one-on-one and individual drills. According to CHGO's Greg Braggs, Walker came away with a nice grab across the middle with good coverage on him. Walker also easily beat cornerback Jaylon Jones during one-on-ones with a deep catch over his outside shoulder. It's been a solid camp so far for the second-year wideout, who hopes to play a bigger role in the offense this season.

3. WR Zavion Thomas
Another young receiver who is putting together a solid camp is rookie Zavion Thomas, who continues to showcase his speed. Harbor notes Thomas "looks like more than just a gadget player" in this offense with how he can run his routes. During one-on-ones, Thomas blazed past cornerback Terell Smith for an easy score. This comes one practice after he scored a touchdown in wet conditions from quarterback Tyson Bagent. Thomas is making a strong first impression.
