After taking some time to process it all (which he did in between moving and playing some pickup football), Michael Olise hit Instagram to lay out his feeling on the matter:

Not being able to bring home the trophy is a huge disappointment. This isn’t how we imagined this World Cup would end when the tournament began.

Wearing the French national team jersey at a World Cup has always been, and always will be, a dream for me. Even though we didn’t manage to lift the trophy, I’m proud to have set the record for the most assists in World Cup history. But above all, I would have preferred to be here to say that we won the World Cup—all together—with my teammates, the staff, the coaches, and all the fans of the French national team.

That goal will continue to drive us, and we hope that in the future we can bring you more moments of joy and unforgettable memories to share with us.

I’d also like to thank the head coach for giving me my first call-up to the national team and for believing in me, even during the toughest times. I’ll always be grateful to you, and I wish you all the best for the future, whatever path you choose.

Thank you France

Now, Olise can close this chapter of his summer and look forward to reporting to Bayern Munich to get his 2026/27 season started.
