Boston Red Sox Reportedly Promote Top Prospect to Triple-A

There have been few prospects in baseball that have seen their stock rise as much this season as Boston Red Sox shortstop Franklin Arias has. In the span of months, he has become one of baseball’s best prospects.

The 20-year-old has dominated Double-A in 2026, hitting .318/.407/.587/.994 in 75 games for Portland. Heading into the season, Arias was seen as a glove-first prospect with a strong hit tool, whose ceiling would be determined by his ability to grow into power. Well, he has found that power stroke in a major way in his fourth season of professional play. After hitting just 18 home runs in his first three years, Arias has hit 19 in 2026. 

As a result of the newfound power, Arias has skyrocketed to one of the best prospects in the sport, checking in at No. 3 in Baseball America’s latest top 100 ranking.

Arias' talents were on full display as a part of All-Star weekend, where he was selected alongside Sea Dogs teammate Anthony Eyanson to represent the Red Sox in the All-Star Futures game, going 0-for-2 with an RBI after getting the start at second base for the American League. 

After dominating Double-A for the first three-plus months of the season, the Red Sox brass has reportedly seen enough, as, according to Tommy Cassell of the Worcester Telegram and Gazette, Arias is heading to Worcester to join the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox. 

After being one of the youngest players in Double-A, it will be more of the same for Arias. When he arrives in Worcester, he will join Los Angeles Angels prospect outfielder Nelson Rada as the youngest player at the level. 

In other Red Sox prospect news 

The Red Sox welcomed several members of the 2026 MLB Draft Class to Fenway Park for Wednesday’s day-night doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles. Among the draftees seen at the park were first-round pick Jake Schaffner, second-rounder Owen Hull, third-rounder Jace Mataczynski, ninth-rounder Martin Shelar, and 10th-round selection Kaleb LaFavor. 

Speaking of the Red Sox draftees, Baseball America released an updated organization top 30 on Wednesday, where Schaffner, Hull, Mataczynski, and Shelar all found themselves within the top 30 rated prospects in the organization. 

Meanwhile, back in Boston, the Red Sox will look to start a new winning streak after seeing their franchise-record-tying 15-game streak snapped in game two of Wednesday’s doubleheader. They’ll welcome the Toronto Blue Jays to Fenway Park for a three-game set that gets underway on Friday night. Patrick Sandoval (0-0, 4.82 ERA) will get the start for Boston opposite Trey Yesavage (4-5, 3.78 ERA) for Toronto. First pitch is set for 7:15 p.m. ET.
