Many will remember Mauricio Pochettino’s team being torn apart by Belgium in the Round of 16 and breaking American hearts.

However, they won more games (three) than at any other World Cup and won thousands of new soccer fans.

Meanwhile, from Folarin Balogun to Alex Freeman, several standout performers announced themselves on the global stage.

But one USMNT star has been rated the best midfielder at the tournament, ahead of Jude Bellingham and Rodri.

Malik Tillman finished as the World Cup’s highest-rated midfielder

Malik Tillman was arguably the USMNT’s best player at the World Cup, contributing two goals and one assist in five games.

He scored a free-kick against Belgium to level the score at 1-1 that temporarily gave the USA team hope of a famous victory.

Mobile sports app FotMob rated Tillman’s performance at the World Cup a 7.92 out of 10, higher than any other midfielder.

Spain’s Rodri (7.86), who won the Golden Ball, and England’s Jude Bellingham (7.82) were the next best midfielders.

Bellingham scored six goals at the tournament, including back-to-back braces against Mexico and Norway.

Although many will disagree with Tillman’s remarkable rating, no one would argue that he did not have a great World Cup.

His next objective should be to continue in the same form for Bayer Leverkusen in the upcoming 2026/27 season.
