While the quarterback is largely viewed as the MVP on each team, Kevin Patra of NFL.com set out to identify the top non-quarterback MVP candidate from every roster heading into the 2026 season.
His pick for the Indianapolis Colts? Running back Jonathan Taylor -- as expected.

"An every-down workhorse with explosive potential, the only question I have about Taylor is whether back-to-back seasons with 300-plus carries will sneak up on him or force the club to siphon off some of his totes as the season wears on," wrote Patra. "Regardless, if the Colts are to rebound from last year’s collapse, it’ll be on the strength of their Pro Bowl RB."
Taylor was again one of the more productive backs in football last season, totaling 1,585 rushing yards. He continues to be explosive as well, ranking ninth in yards per rush and tied for third in rushes of 10-plus yards.
While all eyes will be on Daniel Jones and the Colts' passing game, it is Taylor who sets the table for this offense. With a strong and steady run game to lean on, that keeps the Colts out of predictable long down-and-distance situations and opens up the playbook for Steichen.
Taylor's impact goes beyond his own column on the stat sheet -- his presence makes his teammates better -- which is a quality that every MVP candidate should possess.
Taylor is set to enter the final year of his current deal.
