· Yahoo Sports
The San Diego Padres used the long ball to level their four-game set with the Atlanta Braves with an 8-3 win, as they rode a rare long-ball trifecta as all three of the big stars homered to lead the way to victory.
The pitching matchup features Walker Buehler against Reynaldo Lopez, and the scores started early with the Padres getting on the boardin the first on an RBI single by Ty France. But the Braves came back with two on a triple by Jim Jarvis to plate a pair as Atlanta went up 2-1.

The Padres started playing long ball in the fourth, as Jackson Merrill hit a solo shot to tie it up, and a groundout by Luis Rengifo followed by a double from Fernando Tatis Jr. that got two more home to make it 4-2.
Machado added to the long ball game in the fifth, and that was it for Lopez, as he wound up giving up five runs on nine hits to go wit three walks and six strikeouts. JR Ritchie came on in relief but didn’t provide much help as he gave up three more.
Buehler, meanwhile, was solid as he bounced back from a pair of tough starts to hold Atlanta to just those two runs through five.
Machado padded the lead with another solo homer to make it 6-2 as the Padres began to pull away. The relievers were an adventure, however, as both Yuki Matsui and Bradgley Rodriguez loaded the bases in the sixth and seventh, respectively, but the only run scored on a balk by Rodriguez.
The Padres pulled further way on a two-run homer by Tatis to make it 8-3, however, and increase San Diego’s comfort level in the late innings.
The comfort level went up even more when the Padres brought in closer Mason Miller with a big lead in a non-save situation, as Miller hadn’t worked since last Friday before this one. Miller did give up a soft single and a walk, but he did clean up his inning with a pair of strikeouts to clinch the win.
The win brought the Padres back to within a game of .500, and it evened the series at 1-1 as San Diego tries to hang on and stay in contention. The Padres will send Michael King to the mound to try and take the series lead, with Atlanta’s starter not named yet.
