Woman, 18, accused of stabbing boy, 17, on Mississauga bus

An 18-year old woman has been charged with attempted murder after a 17-year-old boy was stabbed on a MiWay public transit bus in Mississauga.
Peel Regional Police Const. Amanda Steenson told reporters that the incident happened around 1:50 a.m Tuesday on the bus near Hurontario St. and Waitline Ave. She said the boy was in life-threatening condition in hospital after initially being in stable condition.
“Our officers worked quickly to identify and arrest an 18-year-old female and have since charged her with attempted murder, assault with a weapon, and obstruct police,” said Steenson.
According to police, an altercation broke out on the bus between the suspect and the victim, who were known to each other prior to the attack, and at some point the man was stabbed with an “edged weapon.”
“I don’t have the nature of their exact relationship” Steenson said of the pair. “It was an altercation between the two but I don’t know the exact circumstances of that altercation.”
Police say the stabbing was an “isolated incident” and there is no further threat to public safety. The woman’s name was not released.
Other passengers receiving support
It’s not know if the suspect and victim got on the bus together and cops are currently viewing CCTV footage and are asking anyone with video of the incident who has not yet spoken to investigators to come forward.
The bus driver and multiple other passengers were on the bus at the time of the stabbing and they are being looked after, Steenson said.
“We have victim services supports for the witnesses who witnessed this incident because it is a very concerning thing that took place especially in front of all these people,” she said, adding she didn’t have an exact figure for how many were on the bus.
