Former Penn State RB transfers to Nebraska

Penn State has lost a potentially dangerous weapon to fellow Big Ten program Nebraska. Former 2025 commit Tikey Hayes, having only played in the Pinstripe Bowl last season against Clemson, will get a chance for a more prominent role with the Cornhuskers. While Penn State believes they have a solid rotation of backs to rely upon, losing Hayes could come back to haunt them down the road.
Hayes' story is an interesting one, as he transferred to JUCO college Iowa Western Community College after his season with Penn State finished up. However, the reason for Hayes' hype is because of his career at Aliquippa High School, which has recently produced premier talents at the collegiate level. He totaled over 2,300 tards rushing and 29 touchdowns while at Aliquippa in his junior year alone. His senior year saw a decrease in production, but his junior season efforts were enough to persuade D-I programs of his play.

He signed with the Nittany Lions to remain in state and was a three-star prospect. Still, sitting behind Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen. meant that Hayes never really had a chance to see the field. Even against Clemson in the Pinstripe Bowl, Quinton Martin Jr. was favored over him. Now, he has a clear path to compete for the RB1 role in Lincoln due to off-the-field issues for presumed RB1 Mekhi Nelson.
