‘These are my prime years’: Teofimo looks to take advantage of this stretch of his career

Teofimo Lopez spoke with Fight Hype after his kickoff press conference for a fight against Rolly Romero, and talking about his mindset for this fight, Lopez says he’s even more focused after coming off a wide decision loss to Shakur Stevenson in his last outing. Here are some excerpts from Lopez about where he’s currently at.

“When you get outclassed like in my previous fight then there’s things you got to really think about,” Lopez said. “I think about the business perspective of it, I need to also protect my assets. What does that mean? Got to start launching something different: Takeover Promotions with DAZN. We can do anything and everything with the lead promoters that come into play but at least I get the rights to all my things…I got to take control of my career.

“These are my prime years. Let’s take advantage of those prime years but in a good way where small steps but long gains afterwards…By the end of this whole thing, I’m going to help a lot of young fighters. By the end of this whole thing, they’re going to help a lot of young fighters.”

Teofimo challenges Rolly for his WBA welterweight title next month in Las Vegas.
