Oregon baseball commit Andruw Giles selected in 2026 MLB Draft
· Yahoo Sports
Now we wait. The Oregon Ducks could be losing an important part of their upcoming baseball recruiting class after outfielder Andruw Giles was selected in the fourth round of the 2026 MLB Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Pirates selected Giles with the No. 108 overall pick in the draft because of his bat. The Nevada native has some pop, but is mainly a contact hitter from the left side with the ability to hit to all points of the field.

Giles has decent speed and could play center field, but a corner outfield spot is more likely a long-term plan for him. His bat makes him one of, if not the best player in Oregon’s recruiting class.
With their 4th-round pick (No. 108 overall), the @Pirates select Basic (NV) outfielder Andruw Giles, No. 157 on the Top 250 Draft prospects list.

Last season, Giles hit for a .494 batting average, collecting 38 hits in just 77 at-bats, and reaching base at a .606 clip. The left-handed outfielder has a smooth swing at the plate, hitting for average and power, and he has a strong arm to play a corner outfield spot. Giles was named the Prep Baseball Nevada Co-Player of the Year, despite limited action at the plate.
Since the Pirates used a high pick on him, it could be hard for the Ducks to sway Giles away from the contract the Pirates can offer him with the slot money, which is $725,900 as the No. 108 pick. Oregon has been ripped apart this offseason because the program has fewer resources than SEC programs, but if the ability to develop more and capitalize on NIL value is appealing enough, Giles could still make it to campus.
There is a spot open in the outfield after Angel Laya left the program. The Ducks could also move Jax Gimenez around the field, opening multiple spots for Giles to make his way into the lineup as a freshman.
Time will tell if Giles will wind up as a Duck or not. The deadline for his decision is July 27 at 2 p.m. PT.
