The Atlanta Dream star picked up her seventh technical foul of the 2026 season during Thursday night's game against the Seattle Storm, putting her just one technical away from an automatic one-game suspension. With Atlanta battling for playoff positioning, Reese's growing disciplinary situation has suddenly become a storyline to watch alongside her on-court production.
Angel Reese now one technical foul away from suspension
Reese was assessed her seventh technical foul midway through the second quarter against Seattle after reacting to a no-call while driving to the basket. Believing she had been fouled, Reese argued with the officials after play continued, resulting in the technical.
The penalty carries significant consequences. Under WNBA rules, a player who reaches eight technical fouls during the regular season is automatically suspended for one game and fined $1,500. Reese's seventh technical also comes with a $1,000 fine, leaving virtually no margin for error over the remainder of the season.
If Reese reaches eight technical fouls, Atlanta would be forced to play without one of its biggest stars.
Dream star has been dominant despite officiating frustrations
Despite the mounting technical fouls, Reese has been one of the WNBA's most impactful forwards this season. Entering Thursday's matchup against Seattle, the 24-year-old was averaging 14.9 points, 11.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.6 steals per game while serving as a centerpiece of Atlanta's lineup alongside Allisha Gray and Rhyne Howard.
Her relentless, physical style has helped fuel the Dream throughout the season, but it has also led to frequent disagreements with officials. Reese has consistently played with emotion, and those interactions have now placed her dangerously close to a suspension. With the Dream hoping to make a deep postseason run, keeping Reese on the floor will be critical.

Reese also nearing another suspension threshold
The technical fouls aren't the only disciplinary concern facing Reese. She currently has two flagrant points this season. Under WNBA rules, players receive an automatic one-game suspension upon accumulating four flagrant points.
That means Reese is approaching suspension territory through two separate disciplinary categories. If she receives another technical foul, she will automatically miss one game. Additional suspensions would also follow every subsequent even-numbered technical foul, meaning her 10th, 12th and later even-numbered technicals would each trigger another one-game suspension.
For now, the Dream can still count on their star forward. But with plenty of basketball remaining in the regular season, every conversation with an official will carry a little more weight.
