The Bayern Munich striker’s performance was recognised by the White House with American president writing on social media: “Harry Kane of England is a GREAT player.”
Kane’s 60th-minute penalty proved decisive after Jude Bellingham scored twice in the space of 98 seconds before half-time.
Julian Quinones cut the deficit before the break and Raul Jimenez scored from the spot to make it 3-2, but England set up a quarter-final date with Norway despite having Jarell Quansah sent off after 54 minutes.
Kane, England’s record World Cup goalscorer, is one behind Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi in the race for the Golden Boot.
