Astros All-Star shortstop Jeremy Peña is on track to return from the injured list next weekend in Arlington, Astros manager Joe Espada revealed.

“The plan is for him to potentially play a game or two in Triple-A, and then we’ll re-assess after that,” Espada said before Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Peña was placed on the injured list on June 30 with a left calf strain. He and Espada were confident his IL stint would be short. Friday’s series opener is the first day Peña is eligible to be activated.

“We are in a good spot for him to rejoin the club at some point in that weekend series in Texas, if all goes well,” Espada said.

An All-Star last season, Peña’s 2026 campaign has been marred by injuries. A fractured right ring finger suffered during an exhibition before the World Baseball Classic forced him to miss Opening Day, and he missed 32 games earlier this season due to a right hamstring strain.

Peña has posted a 123 OPS+ in the 48 games he has played.
