In today's chaotic NIL-driven recruiting age, landing out-of-state prospects has become a popular strategy for every Power Four program, including Texas A&M, as third-year coach Mike Elko and his staff have dominated the Georgia and Florida recruiting landscape over the past two recruiting cycles, while still securing nearly every priority prospect in Texas.

Recruiting at home continues to be the priority, but with Texas and Texas Tech as stiff competition year after year, Elko and his staff have to take a strategic approach, focused on landing future NFL players who fit Texas A&M's culture and scheme, and among the 25 commits in the Aggies' No. 1-ranked 2027 cycle, eight hail from the Lone Star State.
This week, Dave Campbell's Texas Football released its Texas High School Football Player Rankings, as seven of the Aggies' Texas-based commits are ranked within the top 71 players listed, with five-star offensive lineman Kennedy Brown coming in at No. 4, followed by four-star safety JayQuan Snell at No. 10.
On Saturday, five-star tackle Ismael Camara committed to Texas, and while the Aggies are expected to continue pursuing the Gilmer (TX) native, having Kennedy Brown, five-star OT Mark Matthews out of Florida, and four-star tackles Kaeden Scott, ranked 12th overall, and DeMarrion Johnson, ranked 40th, is an elite haul that doesn't require another addition.
Here is where all seven Texas A&M commits in DCTF's rankings currently sit.
- Five-star OT Kennedy Brown (4th)
- Four-star S JayQuan Snell (10th
- Four-star OT Kaeden Scott (12th)
- Four-star Edge Kaden McCarty (17th)
- Four-star OT DeMarrion Johnson (40th)
- Three-star LB Aston Whiteside (55th)
- Three-star CB Hakeem Frampton (71st)
Texas A&M's 2027 recruiting class is currently ranked No. 1 in all three (Rivals, 247Sports, ESPN) major recruiting sites.
