SWR Achieves Record Freight Loading in June 2026

SWR achieved an originating freight loading of 4.18 million tonnes (MT) during June 2026, surpassing 3.98 MT recorded in June 2025. This represents a growth of 5.2% (0.20 MT) and marks the highest-ever freight loading for the month of June. Further strengthening this achievement, SWR also recorded its best-ever average daily wagon loading for June, with 2,221 wagons per day compared to 2,143 wagons per day last year, registering a growth of 3.6%.

Commodity-wise performance remained robust across major segments. Iron ore loading stood at 1.69 MT, showing a growth of 6.3% over last year. Steel loading increased to 0.90 MT, registering a growth of 7.4%. A notable surge was observed in RMSP loading, which rose sharply by 34.5% to 0.23 MT. Mineral oil loading also showed a healthy increase of 15.8% to 0.21 MT. Cement traffic grew by 32 % to 0.03 MT, while container loading improved by 15.8% to 0.09 MT, reflecting diversified and strengthened freight operations.
On the earnings front, SWR recorded a gross revenue of Rs. 733.23 crore in June 2026, achieving a year-on-year growth of 1.55% (Rs. 11.22 crore). Passenger revenue emerged as a major contributor, reaching Rs. 290.43 crore with a strong growth of 15.08% compared to June 2025. The zone carried 14.85 million passengers during the month, registering a growth of 4.36% over the previous year.
Parcel revenue stood at Rs. 14.30 crore, reflecting a growth of 5.30% year-on-year. Freight revenue, the backbone of railway earnings, amounted to Rs. 402.61 crore. Other coaching revenue was recorded at Rs. 26.66 crore, while sundry revenue stood at Rs. 13.53 crore. Commercial sundry revenue totalled Rs. 5.56 crore, showing a marginal growth of 0.36% over last year. On the operational side, ticket checking activities resulted in 0.58 lakh cases, generating earnings of Rs. 4.96 crore during the month.
The strong performance in freight loading coupled with steady revenue growth highlights SWR’s sustained efforts in improving logistics efficiency, strengthening infrastructure, and enhancing customer satisfaction.
