No one really knows what LeBron James is going to do in free agency.
But the Los Angeles Lakers appear to at least be keeping an eye on him -- with their latest Bronny James contract decision an indicator that they still want to be in the running to bring King James back to town.
Bronny, LeBron's son, entered Monday without yet having his entire salary for the 2026-27 season guaranteed.
If the Lakers had waived Bronny on Monday, they would've saved about $1 million.
Bronny is still on the Lakers' roster as of Tuesday morning, though. His $2.2 million salary for the upcoming season is now fully guaranteed.
They could still move on from him down the road if they wanted. That's not a huge cost to the Lakers.
But for now, L.A. is keeping Bronny around.

To be fair, this isn't entirely about LeBron. Bronny has developed his game in positive ways since coming to the NBA.
The Lakers can have him through the 2027-28 season if they so choose, and given the cheap contract, there's no real reason to move on right now.
But if the Lakers had decided to waive Bronny for a bit of financial savings, it also likely would've signaled that LeBron had no interest in coming back to Los Angeles.
Now that Bronny is still there, it appears the door is at least still open for LeBron. Whether he decides to walk through it or not remains a total mystery.
