The women’s 800m world best is one of athletic’s longest-standing records after Czech athlete Jarmila Kratochvilova set 1:53.28 in 1983.
Werro set a new personal best and leading time in the world this year when finishing comfortably ahead of second-placed Femke Broeders-Bol (1:55.60), the former world 400m hurdles champion, who also set a new personal best.
The Swiss athlete stunned British Olympic 800m champion Keely Hodgkinson in Stockholm earlier this month when running 1:53.98.
Hodgkinson also ran a personal best and set new British record of 1:54:33 when pipped on the line by Werro, who has now run the third and fourth fastest times in history.
The event was held despite the high temperatures, with organizers revising some protocols to try to mitigate the weather.
