Manchester City’s Ruben Dias will give consideration to a move to Real Madrid this summer, according to new suggestions.
Dias, 29, has been heavily linked with a departure from the Etihad Stadium this summer, having seen Pep Guardiola depart as manager and his best friend in football, Bernardo Silva, join Real Madrid on a free transfer.
Real Madrid were also linked with a move for City midfielder Rodri this summer and whilst a 2026 transfer appears highly unlikely, executives at the Santiago Bernaneu will be eyeing a free transfer for the 30-year-old Ballon d’Or winning midfielder when his City contract expires next summer.
Manchester City face Ruben Dias exit threat as Jose Mourinho spearheads Real Madrid interest
Why is Dias considering leaving Man City this summer?
City saw Dias struggle with injuries in the second half of their recent FA Cup and Carabao Cup double winning season, though the January signing of Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace and the outstanding form shown by Abdukodir Khusanov maintained a solid centre-back partnership as the Blues challenged Arsenal all the way in the title race.
Guardiola – along with a large majority of his backroom staff has departed the club this summer – and there is great doubt over whether Manchester City can fend off interest from Real Madrid in Dias, who is understood to be open to a new challenge.
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is backing newly-appointed manager Jose Mourinho heavily in the transfer market and after a second successive trophyless season at the Santiago Bernabeu, Los Blancos are leaving no stone unturned in the summer transfer market.
Report: Man City to fight to keep Dias, who will explore Real Madrid option
Now, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke, Dias will consider joining Real Madrid this summer, but those at Manchester City do not want to lose his services ahead of Enzo Maresca‘s arrival as new manager.
Mourinho is understood to have his fellow countryman on a list of potential centre-back additions ahead of the new La Liga campaign, but any deal for the defender will not come cheap given his contractual status at the Etihad Stadium.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, O’Rourke said: “It does seem that there is some interest from Real Madrid in Dias, and the lure of a move to Madrid would be difficult to ignore for any player, not just him.
Ruben Dias breaks silence on Real Madrid transfer rumours
Could Ruben Dias seriously join Real Madrid this summer?
“It’s probably going to be a saga that will drag out into the summer, but Manchester City do not want to lose Dias. If Madrid get any indication that he could be prized away from the Etihad, they will try and bring him to the Spanish capital.”
Dias has so far refused to comment on a possible switch to Real Madrid this summer but the writing seems to be on the wall for the Portugal international to join forces with Silva in the Spanish capital after a decorated spell in England’s north-west.
City will not block an exit if the former Benfica man expresses a firm desire to leave but will demand what they believe is a fair price for a cornerstone of Guardiola’s backline for years, who signed a fresh deal at the Etihad Stadium till 2029 last summer.
