This Patrick Mahomes highlight made NFL's 'Best of 2025' compilation

Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes delivered one of the best plays of the 2025 NFL season in Week 1 against the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Chiefs were trailing the Chargers by eight points just four seconds into the fourth quarter. Mahomes received the ball on a key third down and dropped deep into the pocket while looking for receivers downfield.

Mahomes then stepped through the middle while looking to evade Chargers safety Derwin James flanking him on his right side. Just as James wrapped up Mahomes at his feet, the two-time AP MVP quarterback threw a flip pass to JuJu Smith-Schuster while being parallel to the ground for a first down.

The completion — which was highlighted by the NFL as a top play of the 2025 regular season — allowed the Chiefs to continue their first possession of the quarter, which turned into a touchdown-scoring seven-play, 65-yard drive.

Though Kansas City made it a 20-18 game as a result of the score, they went on to lose to Los Angeles 27-21 in the affair. The play was a classic one for Mahomes, and one of the best of the season.
