The New York Mets have an opportunity to lose Freddy Peralta this offseason, which might prompt David Stearns to make the move now rather than lose him for nothing. I'm in the boat that the Mets should try to come to an agreement with Peralta before the trade deadline to keep him around for the foreseeable future, but it doesn't seem like that's going to be the case.

Unfortunately for the Mets, it's likely better to move on from him now and hope that things go as planned at the deadline to get the best possible package in return.
At the same time, it's very possible that the Mets look to find his replacement during the deadline as well, with ESPN's Jeff Passan recently floating Jose Soriano as a potential option. Soriano, just 27 years old, is a free agent after the 2029 campaign.
“Since starting the season by giving up one run in his first 37⅔ innings, Soriano has posted an ERA approaching 5.00. The stuff still really plays, and plenty of organizations believe they can help work out the control kinks that can plague Soriano. Add to that the two years of control and the same pitching-hungry organizations that want Detmers -- contenders and teams that intend to contend in the coming years -- will be interested in Soriano,” Jeff Passan wrote.
Soriano isn't the same caliber of a starter as Peralta, but that doesn't mean he's bad. There's even an argument to be made that he's been better, as he has a 2.79 ERA and is throwing the baseball at a very high level.
His 3.88 FIP suggests he might be getting a tad lucky, and his walk numbers are concerning, but the stuff is there, and if he's developed correctly, the Dominican Republic native could really be a nice fit in New York.
