The week of June 7-13 saw a heavy load of Iowa high school baseball action featuring teams from the Ames area.
Ames and Ballard split a doubleheader on June 9 at Slater. The Bombers pulled off an 8-2 win in the opener, and the Little Cyclones took game two by a 14-1 score.

Roland-Story suffered its first loss of the season after splitting a doubleheader with Saydel on June 8 at Story City. The Norsemen suffered an 11-5 loss, and they rolled to a 14-2 victory in the two games against the Eagles.
Gilbert, Nevada, Collins-Maxwell and Colo-NESCO also had busy weeks on the baseball diamond. There were several outstanding individual efforts from area baseball players during the week.

Reid Schmal, Ames
Schmal showed off his power during Ames' 14-1 win over Ballard during the nightcap of a doubleheader between the two teams on June 9 at Nite Hawk Field in Slater.
Schmal went 2-for-3 with a home run and five RBIs for the Little Cyclones in the victory.
Kody Koerner, Gilbert
Koerner turned in a brilliant pitching performance for the Gilbert baseball team during a 2-0 victory over Iowa Falls-Alden on June 12 at Gilbert.
Koerner fired a one-hit masterpiece over seven innings to earn the shutout victory. He racked up an impressive 14 strikeouts and finished with no walks.
Clay Franzen, Nevada
Franzen had a strong night swinging the bat for the Nevada baseball team during a 16-4 rout of South Hamilton on June 11 at Jewell.
Franzen finished 2-for-4 with a triple. He scored two runs, swiped three bases and picked up five RBIs.
Cooper Triggs, Roland-Story
Triggs displayed some power hitting for the Roland-Story baseball team during its 14-2 victory as part of a doubleheader with Saydel on June 8 at Story City.
Triggs went 2-for-3 with a double and a home run for the Norsemen. He scored two runs and drove in four.
Jake Clement, Ballard
Clement rose to the occasion for the Ballard baseball team during a 9-4 victory over Harlan on June 12 at Harlan.
Clement went 3-for-4 with a double, home run and two runs and RBIs apiece to help the Bombers earn the non-conference victory.
