The Pittsburgh Steelers have four quarterbacks potentially worthy of a roster spot.

That's one of those situations that screams that a trade is coming.

One of those QBs, Mason Rudolph, could be the candidate.

Aaron Rodgers will start. Will Howard is in his second year. Drew Allar is a rookie. Both youngsters were Pittsburgh draft picks who have some legitimate talent.

Rudolph doesn't fit that bill. He's a veteran, a long-term backup, and the Steelers don't necessarily have a reason to consider him within their long-term plans.

He wouldn't fetch a ton in a trade, but Bleacher Report's Moe Moton projects that Rudolph would be worth a 2027 fifth-round pick and a 2028 seventh-round pick in a trade return.

If the Steelers get that offer, they should probably take it -- unless they really don't think Howard or Allar are equipped to be backups.

The comments out of Pittsburgh suggest they feel good about Howard and Allar, so that could spell an exit on its way for Rudolph.

"Entering his age-31 term, Rudolph doesn't have much upside," Moton writes. "He's been a backup for most of his career, though the eighth-year veteran helped lead Pittsburgh to the playoffs in 2023, starting in the final three games of that year... Rudolph isn't a full-time starting-caliber signal-caller, but he can lead a respectable offense in short stretches."

The Steelers are probably still going to be searching for their long-term QB answer when this season is done.

It almost certainly won't be Rudolph, though, and so trading him doesn't seem like a bad plan.
