La Salle lacrosse thumps Radnor to capture PIAA Class 3A title

· Yahoo Sports

La Salle lost the lead early to Radnor but made sure not to do so again in Saturday's PIAA Class 3A boys' lacrosse state championship game at Penn State University.

After falling behind by a goal late in the first quarter, the Explorers went on a scoring binge that led to a 16-9 win over the Raptors, giving La Salle its fourth lacrosse state title and first since 2019.

The victory also avenged a 9-6 loss to Radnor in the 2024 PIAA Class 3A championship game. A year ago, the Explorers lost to eventual PIAA Class 3A champion Springfield-Delco in the state semifinals. They also avenged that loss by upending the Cougars 12-4 in the semifinals on Tuesday.

La Salle (22-3) jumped out to a 3-0 lead early in the first quarter on goals from Will Trymbiski, Dylan Malone and Tobi Zweiback before Radnor closed out the quarter with four goals to take a 4-3 lead into the second session.

From there, though, the Explorers went on a 7-2 scoring run that turned the one-goal deficit into a 10-6 lead midway through the third quarter.

Radnor (20-6), playing in its sixth straight PIAA final, would get no closer than three goals the rest of the way as the Explorers methodically pulled away.

Trymbiski, a Hofstra commit and the MVP in the Philadelphia Catholic League, led the way with a game-high five goals while senior teammate Malone, a Duke commit, and Zweiback, a junior, each added three goals.

Michael van Bastelaar (a Notre Dame commit) chipped in with a pair of goals while Shane Dominello, Mason Smith and Danny Kuriger added single tallies.

La Salle junior Rocco Davis, a Drexel commit, dominated the faceoff circle and junior goalie Roman Ippoldo turned away nine shots.
