Soon, getting there will become much simpler.
Airlink has announced that it will launch direct flights between Cape Town and Mauritius from 2 October 2026, giving travellers in the Western Cape a new non-stop route to one of the Indian Ocean’s most popular destinations.
Bookings for the new service are already open, marking Airlink’s first-ever route to the island nation.
No more Johannesburg connection to Mauritius
Until now, many Cape Town travellers heading to Mauritius have had to connect through Johannesburg, adding extra travel time and the stress of changing flights.
The new twice-weekly service aims to remove that inconvenience, allowing passengers to fly directly from Cape Town to Mauritius without the need for a stopover.
According to Airlink CEO De Villiers Engelbrecht, the route is designed to provide a more convenient option for both leisure and business travellers.
“Our new flagship aircraft, the E195-E2, makes it possible for Airlink to conveniently connect Cape Town with Mauritius,” he said.
He added that Cape Town serves as an important source market and connecting hub for travellers looking to reach Mauritius while avoiding the hassle of connecting in Johannesburg.
New Airlink aircraft on the route
Airlink will operate its newest Embraer E195-E2 aircraft on the service.
The aircraft accommodates 124 passengers, including 12 business-class seats and 112 economy seats.
One feature many travellers may appreciate is the seating configuration: there are only aisle and window seats, with no middle seats anywhere on the aircraft.
The E195-E2 is also one of the airline’s most modern and fuel-efficient aircraft, forming part of Airlink’s ongoing fleet expansion.
Airlink says the flight schedule has been structured to suit both holidaymakers and business travellers.
Rather than requiring middle-of-the-night departures or arrivals, the timing is intended to help passengers maximise their time on the island while reducing travel fatigue.
Airlink to also fly Cape Town-ZanzibarIn other news, Airlink will also launch a non-stop Cape Town–Zanzibar route in October, marking the island’s first direct connection from the Mother City.
Cape Town International Airport will see weekly Saturday flights starting 3 October 2026:
- Cape Town → Zanzibar: 08:15 → 14:30
- Zanzibar → Cape Town: 15:30 → 20:50
Engelbrecht said the new E195-E2 fleet makes routes like this possible, turning what used to be multi-leg journeys into straightforward, non-stop hops across the Indian Ocean.
