The Philadelphia Phillies have climbed above .500 at the beginning of June after once sitting at 8-16. It has been a surprising turnaround after a season that got off to a disappointing start.

Philadelphia is led by veterans such as Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, and Trea Turner. Even with that experienced core, the organization made the difficult decision to part ways with manager Rob Thomson.

“There’s a major shakeup in Philadelphia. The Phillies fired manager Rob Thomson on Tuesday morning. Don Mattingly is the interim skipper, with the team’s press release saying he’ll hold that position for the remainder of the 2026 season,” MLB Trade Rumors’ Anthony Franco wrote.

With the trade deadline approaching, the Phillies are beginning to evaluate potential moves. Justin Crawford could very well be used as trade bait while his value remains high.

“While it has not been a great start to his career in the majors, Crawford has been considered one of the best prospects and young players in the organization. The young outfielder showcased in the minors that he can do a lot of things well, but that has yet to translate to success with the Phillies. However, despite some struggles, there is still a ton of trade value for the slugger,” SI’s Nick Ziegler wrote.

Philadelphia is expected to make a splash at the trade deadline, and one mock trade has the club landing Mike Trout.

“Phillies Get: OF/DH, Mike Trout. Angels Get: OF, Justin Crawford, P, Jean Cabrera, INF, Aroon Escobar, Future Prospect,” SI’s Thomas Carelli wrote. “The Phillies will be willing to take on Trout's huge contract that demands over $37 million average annual value over the next four seasons. They will also be able to market one of the MLB's top players. Trout is the 7th-highest-paid player in the MLB. In an age of the MLB that favors analytics, Trout can absolutely be supplemented in value via minor leaguers and new, young players that they get back in this deal.”

The Phillies are in need of another power bat in the lineup, as Adolis García has not provided the production they were hoping for. As long as Trout stays healthy, he could give Philadelphia exactly what it has been missing offensively.

Trout is still under his massive $426 million contract. Pairing him in a lineup with Schwarber and Harper would give the Phillies another dangerous offensive weapon and create even more lineup flexibility. This trade would be a significant move for Philadelphia as it looks to strengthen its championship aspirations with a much-needed bat.
