The New England Patriots started June with a statement trade, as they sent a 2028 first-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles for star wide receiver A.J. Brown.

The move will give Drake Maye arguably the best WR teammate in his young career and give the Patriots a good chance of remaining in the mix for a Super Bowl.

In ESPN’s Dan Graziano’s opinion, though, the Patriots may not be finished making moves, as he believes that the Las Vegas Raiders or Washington Commanders could soon become interested in trading for the franchise’s 5-foot-11 wideout, who could soon become a misfit.

“(Kayshon) Boutte has been productive in a part-time role for the Patriots, catching nine touchdowns over the past two seasons,” Graziano wrote last Thursday. “He turned 24 last month.”

“The 2023 sixth-round pick has just one year left on his contract at $3.674 million, and the acquisitions of A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs might just make things too crowded in New England's wide receivers room.”

“The Patriots have received calls on Boutte and likely will continue to do so. And as always, unless and until we see a contract extension, we're justified in wondering whether the player is in the team's long-term plans. The Raiders and Commanders stand out as two teams that could still use help at wide receiver.”

Graziano’s assessment of the state of the Raiders and Commanders’ receiving rooms is spot on. Whether it’s Fernando Mendoza or Kirk Cousins under center for Las Vegas this season (or both), the Raiders should ensure they have ample weapons at their disposal to ensure they have the best possible chance to flourish.

Boutte would be far from a home run acquisition, but he’s a young, high upside WR with solid hands and valuable Super Bowl experience at just 24 years old.

The Commanders are looking to bounce back from their disappointing 5-12 2025-26 campaign, and surrounding Jayden Daniels with a respectable 551-yard, six-touchdown receiver would certainly help in that regard.

Essentially, if either franchise fails to land a game-changer on the WR trade market, Boutte would be a solid fallback option.
