The American, who often splits opinion among fans, reclaimed the middleweight belt at UFC 328 on May 9 in Newark.
Strickland handed Khamzat Chimaev his first loss, going the full five rounds and doing so while carrying an injury. The win was significant for him because he also ended Chimaev’s undefeated run.
Soon after his victory, Strickland shared that he had hurt his shoulder before the fight. He even mentioned that Rogan noticed something was off with him from cageside during the fight.
Strickland posted on Instagram after surgery to update fans and let them know it went well, although it is not clear exactly how long he will be out of action.

Strickland initially worried he might need surgery, which would have meant a long layoff before his first title defence. However, after visiting Danese Rexroad at the Ways2Well clinic, Strickland said surgery won’t be necessary.
The diagnosis came during an Instagram video filmed at the clinic, where his injuries were confirmed.
“You have an AC (acromioclavicular) separation and a small tear in one of the muscles in your shoulder,” Rexroad said. She even provided a scan to back up her diagnosis.
Rogan had recommended the clinic to Strickland, who shared his appreciation during his visit. Recovery time for AC separations can vary. It’s about 2 weeks for a grade I injury, around 6 weeks for grade II, and up to 12 weeks for a grade III.
This likely won’t affect Strickland’s return schedule. He’s expected back in action soon, possibly in a rematch with either Nassourdine Imavov or Chimaev.
Dana White has played down talk of a Chimaev rematch for now. That could open the door for Imavov to get his first shot at the belt.
