Springfield families, runners and community supporters are invited to the 3rd annual DK Memorial Track Meet, set for 4 p.m. June 6 at JFK Stadium, according to a community announcement.

A day of competition, remembrance and impact

The track meet is expected to bring together runners, families and community supporters for a day of competition, remembrance and impact. The event is open to runners, families, schools and community supporters of all ages.

The event will feature races and relay opportunities for a variety of ages and skill levels, along with family-friendly activities like an inflatable costume run and a doughnut run.

Officially timed, qualifying events include:

  • 100m
  • 200m
  • 800m
  • 1600m
  • 100m hurdles
  • 4x100 relay
  • 4x400 relay

Funds raised through the event directly support local children and youth who may otherwise be unable to participate in sports because of financial barriers. Through Deverin’s Locker, families receive practical assistance that helps children stay involved, connected and encouraged both on and off the field.

Event honors the legacy of Deverin King

According to the announcement, the annual event was created in memory of Deverin King and reflects the values he embodied through sports: perseverance, discipline, teamwork and encouragement.

“The DK Memorial Track Meet is about more than competition,” Amanda Ingle, program director for Ambassadors for Children, said in the announcement. “It is an opportunity for the community to come together in a meaningful way while helping local children experience the confidence, belonging and life lessons that sports can provide.”
