Last year was a tough one for Garrett Wilson

The star receiver was forced out with an injury for the first time in his pro career, missing a couple of weeks before the Jets decided to shut things down for the rest of the regular season.

It was difficult for Wilson to remain sidelined as his teammates went out and competed down the stretch, but looking back on it now, he thinks he may’ve needed it.

“It allowed me to change my view and look at things from a different angle,” he said. “I don’t want to sit here and act like I got nothing out of it -- not playing football, which is ultimately what I was brought here to do, it hurt me.

“It’s never been brought upon me like that, so it was different -- I just needed to change my scope on things. That's what’s at risk every time I take the field, and maybe I was getting a little too comfortable, so I’m happy to be back.”

While it took him longer than he initially expected to build back up over the offseason, Wilson is officially back to 100 percent and has been a full participant during OTAs.

“He looks really good,” head coach Aaron Glenn said. “He’s getting all of the reps.”

“I feel great,” Wilson added. “As far as getting back to myself, I still got some work to do -- I don’t want to scare anybody, I’m not that far off, but I got a standard that I want to get back to and that’s the mission.”

That standard includes three consecutive seasons of 1,000+ yards and 80+ receptions before falling short of both of those marks because of the injury last year.

He’ll look to get back to that type of production, now working in new OC Frank Reich’s system.

“It’s been great so far, honestly,” Wilson said. “This is probably one of the offenses that I’m going to look back on in a few years and love the most -- it’s really player empowering, receiver empowering, skill position empowering.

“You can tell Frank has been around the block a bit -- he’s great, so I’m excited to bring all of his thoughts and his dreams to life because we have a special opportunity here, and I know he’s excited to be part of this.”
