Veteran outfielder Austin Slater has reportedly signed a minor-league deal with a Boston Red Sox division rival.

MLB insider Robert Murray of FanSided reported on Tuesday that the Tampa Bay Rays have signed Slater to a minor-league deal.

“Source: Free-agent outfielder Austin Slater and the Tampa Bay Rays are in agreement on a minor-league contract,” Murray wrote on X.

Slater became a free agent after electing free agency on May 24 after being DFA’d by the New York Mets, following signing with them on April 27. He inked the deal with the Mets after making just 12 appearances with the Miami Marlins earlier this season before being DFA’d.

The 33-year-old made his MLB debut on June 2, 2017 with the San Francisco Giants and has experience playing in the AL East, as he played for the Baltimore Orioles in 2024 after being dealt at the trade deadline, and the New York Yankees in 2025, after also being dealt at the deadline.

In his MLB career, Slater is hitting .247 with 45 home runs and 186 RBIs in 720 career games. His best season came in 2021 when he hit .241 with 12 home runs and 32 RBIs.

The veteran outfielder will add some experience to the Rays' lineup if he can reach the majors.

Tampa Bay is currently 34-17 and atop the AL East.
